The two runners up will receive an exclusive Lagg Distillery goodie bag. The Isle of Arran Distillers have assembled an expert judging panel that will mull over each entry.

To us, whisky is liquid poetry and we want to include this spirit at Lagg. Who knows, we might uncover the next big literary talent! Entrants will also need to include in their name, contact information and date of birth as this competition is only open to those over the age of Please be sure to also include within your entry letter your name, your contact information and your date of birth.

Terms and conditions for the competition can be found on the Scottish Field and Isle of Arran Distillers websites. The most recent milestone for the Lagg Distillery is the completion of the steelworks. With the structure now in place, the Distillery has begun to take on its distinctive shape, overlooking the south coast of Arran and the Firth of Clyde.

The new distillery has been positioned next to fields of barley that provide a portion of the malt currently used in distillation at Lochranza.

Come this autumn the copper pot stills will be installed, followed in early by the first production run of the new heavily-peated 50ppm spirit that will become, in time, the flagship Lagg Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The Isle of Arran Distillers has released of the first casks of this whisky for purchase. The casks owners will then have the opportunity to bottle the spirit, complete with a limited-edition Lagg Cask society label, or pay an annual fee to continue the maturation process until the desired age is attained.

It is expected that the casks will be laid down in early No further casks will be made available for sale to the public during the first ten years of production at Lagg. This bottling was chosen by Society members at the Campbeltown Malts Festival who voted for their favourite cask sample during the Society tasting. These members also inspired the official tasting notes with their descriptions of the dram during the tasting. Sweet and creamy; milk chocolate and mandarins closely followed by cinnamon and Scottish tablet. Strawberries, plum jam; fruit cake. Cloves and a soft pepperiness emerge with rhubarb crumble and brambles.

The classic salty and misty coastal notes of Springbank sweep through the mouth. The finish is balanced and rounded with dry pepper, orange chocolates, ripe bananas and coconut shavings. Please make sure you are familiar with the contents of this email before ordering.

An incredibly complex local rum. Aromas of cooked agave, mildly citrus flavor with a round mouthfeel and smooth finish. Browne Baker Rum is made in a Jamaican style, using only black strap molasses. It is fermented with a neutral yeast and then rested in American Oak whiskey barrels for 6 months.

The result is a wonderfully sippable rum with almost scotch-like flavors. Browne Baker Rum is the result of a collaboration between Dean and Tom. Make no mistake, this is not a sipping rum by contemporary standards. Upon initial pour, allow a minute to open up before tasting. At this proof a spill of the spirits would not prevent gunpowder from igniting. Federal definitions require rum to be made of sugarcane or molasses, so this is technically NOT a rum. Corn, barley, wheat and rye make up this unique mashbill. Sweet corn up front, with smoke and vanilla notes from the barrel. The nose is complex, with aromas of toffee, hints of orange peel, herbs, honey, leather and oak. The taste is bold, dry and delicate with notes of candied almonds and very rich cocoa.

A fiery whiskey with strong barrel notes. Nose has notes of dark chocolate, fudge, molasses, vanilla, oak, and muted spices. The taste starts off with caramel cola followed by a blast of cinnamon and black pepper balanced by fudge, vanilla, and oak. Kinsey Bourbon is warm and complex on the palate, with notes of honeysuckle, toffee, unripe orange, and grass culminating in a sweet spice finish.

Old school high rye mashbill created by Basil Hayden in Caramel notes up front with lots of oak, vanilla and cinnamon on the finish. Excellent young whiskey with baking spice and black pepper on the finish. Barrel aging for least six months in charred, new oak quarter casks allows the genuine rye flavor to evolve quickly. As a result, the small batch whiskey is ensured of reaching the right balance of complexity and smoothness. The final product is a very smooth spirit that delivers the up-front spice while finishing with a full, round mouthfeel.

Forward pepper yields to the port fruit on the mid-palate, complemented by cinnamon and cloves. Coats the tongue and finishes with black cherry. The finish is warming and well-balanced.

Deep reddish-brown hue yields to a rich nose of orange, cinnamon, pepper and vanilla — evolving as it opens. Leads with up-front spice to mid-palate dryness with the delicate finish of sweet vermouth on the back of the tongue. The flavor coats the tongue in layers of pepper and cinnamon spice, green apple, fig and cocoa powder with a long smooth and lingering finish.

This special local whiskey is very dry and showcases notes of stone fruit on the midpalate with tons of clove and cinnamon spice present on the long finish.

Sourced Monongahela style rye whiskey. High rye mashbill for extra spice notes, smoothed out by several years in the barrel. Notes of red hot candies with zero sugar. Single barrel, aged 3 years and bottled at cask strength. Malted barley, wheat, oats and rye. Butterscotch and baking spice notes with a long spicy finish. One of the best local whiskies yet. Aged in new American oak and finished in Oloroso sherry casks.

This high-end whiskey gives off a nose of honey, candied stone fruit, leather, baked peaches, and baking spices, with tasting notes of bright floral sweetness and stone fruit and cinnamon candies on the finish.

Notes of oak and tannin balance out the sweetness and cleanse the palate. At proof it packs some heat, along with nice cereal flavors.

The proofed down version of the cask strength whiskey retains those chocolatey notes we love but in a less concentrated, more sippable form. One of our favorite local whiskies is made just a few blocks away. A blend of roasted and chocolate malts creates an amazingly expressive and wholly unique single malt whiskey.

Big and boozy with a more concentrated flavor profile than its little brother. The aroma is young, reminiscent of Cachaca, Arrack or even Tequila. It is fermented with a special yeast which produces a huge amount of flavor. After being pot distilled twice, e rests for a year in american oak barrels which have been used once to age American Rye whiskey.

The result is a rye-like, full flavored malt. This limited edition only 50 bottles! A blend of column distilled grain whiskey and single pot still whiskies. Smooth, slightly sweet and easy drinking.

Cristina's drink of choice and pairs well with a Highlife bottle. Look for a citrusy aroma with a hint of smoke. The palate shows lots of bright tropical fruit, lemon curd and pear, with a whiff of smoke, and finishing with drying oak and ginger heat.

Famous for a reason. Elegant, floral 10 year old single malt aged in bourbon oak casks. A blend of Japanese malt and grain from the 3 distilleries: Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita. Highlighting the traditional Scotch flavor profile, Harmony is smooth with approachable notes of orange peel and white chocolate.

El Arenal, Jalisco, Mexico. This pristine tequila is very representative of the lowland Valles terroir and its volcanic soils. The 8 yr old agaves are roasted for 72 hours and shredded 4 times. It is then distilled once in stainless steel with copper coil, then again in more slowly in small copper pot stills.

Clean with slight citrus. Great for mixing or sipping. Aromas of vanilla, lemongrass, and floral notes are balanced with flavors of sweet cooked agave and toasted oak. Aged for a year in French white oak barrels. The use of over 25 lbs. The resulting agave espadin provides vanilla and dark fruit profiles with a sweet and warm finish. Double discontinuous distillation in copper stills. Both agave varieties are cooked together in a steam oven, then fermented in Montezuma wood tanks.

Distilled twice in a copper alembic. Full and robust smoky character and a rich tanginess. Fresh oak and citrus notes with a heavy, salty smoke finish. A unique spirit distilled from wild-harvested sotol. Earthy, black pepper with a mild citrus finish. Mild and sweet with a light smoky backbone. High toned fruit, roasted green pepper, subtle salinity, mild minerality; bright, refined and elegant on the palate. Sparkling grapefruit and citrus aromatics with wet stone and electricity.

The palate has a rich and creamy mouth-feel, savory butterscotch and herbs with a long and complex finish. Sweet, ripe, tropical fruit, caramelized agave, Chinese five spice and wet stone on the nose. Mineral-rich, and round mouth-feel with an exceptionally long and complex wood-smoke and finish. Lemon zest, red pepper, tropical fruit and smoked game greet the nose with a big creamy and complex palate featuring honeysuckle and sandalwood.

Celso Luis Santiago, Palenque: This one, however was harvested in , then rested in containers for five years prior to being bottled in , allowing intense flavors to develop. With its broad serrated leaves or pencas often bearing black tips. In the local Zapotec dialects, this agave is also known as "Doba-daan" or "Dob-daiin". This mezcal has a medium-light smoke profile, lots of herbaceous notes and slight heat on the finish.

Don Gregorio Martinez Palenque: Wild and thrives in the high altitude volcanic soils. Its tiny size results in small quantities of intensely aromatic mezcal. It prefers to grow on steep grades and can often be found hanging horizontally out of mountain cliffs. The resulting mezcal is unparalleled in complexity. White pepper, fresh green chile, sage, grass. From the harvest, the wild Madrecuixe agaves used for this batch aged for over 12 years in the hills surrounding the remote and arid village.

Notes include freshly peeled potatoes, watermelon, spring cherries, cucumber, mixed herbs, powdered sugar, dried papaya, and dried lemons. Masculine and bone dry, mineral qualities and green vegetation generally define Madrecuixe mezcals from this region.

Very clean with a hint of lime. Huajuapan, Puebla, Mexico - medicinal aromas with peat like smoke. Citrus, apple and caramel flavors. Maestro Mezcalero Don Aaron Alva 4th generation. Combination of fresh river and deep well water. Cooked in a lava rock lined pit for 3 days.

Crushed in a mechanical shredder. Fermented 5 days in regional oak tanks. Distilled 2 times in a copper alamebic still. Aromas of leather, boot full of gasoline, roasted citrus. Aromas of menthol, herbaceous, vanilla, cardamom and minerals.

Aromas of plant rubber. Benefiting from deeper tail cuts, there is a fresh, herbal, briny component to this mezcal. Isaias Martinez Juan - stone oven. Stone oven, hand crushed, pine fermentation, copper still. On the smell it accentuates intense notes of green vegetation and wet earth, with a mineral aroma that is unparalleled and unforgettable. Soft flavors of vanilla and caramel with a great balance of oak and subtle spice. Super smooth American brandy from Kentucky.

Aged primarily in ex bourbon barrels. An excellent middle ground between bourbon and cognac. This barrel was selected for its exquisite complexity and typicity to accurately represent the Petite Champagne terroir. Awakened after more than 30 years of slow aging and a cask strength of Unaged, in the style of Eau de vie. Massive carrot aroma with none of the sweetness. Super earthy and dry. Easy sipping after dinner brandy. Delicate, fruity spicy aromas of spiced fall fruits, sweet creamy meringue, and praline with a silky, bright, dry-yet-fruity light-to-medium body and a peppery, macadamia cookie, and pepper finish 7 Laird's Straight Apple Brandy Laird's Straight Apple Brandy - Scobeyville, NJ - Our 12 year old Apple Brandy is the finest American Apple Brandy available.

Each of the barrels containing apple brandy are tasted as they rest in our barrel ageing facility. This product is straight apple brandy and is not blended with any other products. After charcoal filtering, it is reduced to 88 proof and bottled by hand. There's a baked apple coupled with a slight savory note which makes it multi-dimensional. Aged in bourbon and sherry casks. Cask strength- we recommend you add a splash of water.

This Appalachian indigenous fruit give flavors of ripe banana, sweet melon and mango. Small production fruit means not much available, so try it while you can.

Not overly cloying like the many commercial vermouths. Punt e Mes has a golden orange color with topaz tones, herby aromas and dark red.
